Chronic pain coaching for persistent symptoms, stress & anxiety

The science

Biomedical science has shown that all pain is generated in the brain. Our brains create what we feel and experience. Neuroscience demonstrates that pain can be generated by the brain in the absence of structural damage. This means that often, chronic pain and persistent symptoms do not have a structural cause. Commonly, chronic pain is produced by learnt neural pathways within the brain. This is known as neuroplastic pain.

Pain serves as a danger signal designed to protect us. With neuroplastic pain, the brain mistakenly interprets safe signals from the body as dangerous. When the brain feels under threat, it can perceive safe sensations, emotions or experiences as threatening, even in the absence of danger. This response activates the brain's danger signal, resulting in pain.

Neuroplastic pain can be seen as a false alarm; however, the pain is very real and can be debilitating. Over time, repeated false alarm signals combined with our response to the pain (fear, anxiety, anger) create a sensitised nervous system, intensifying symptoms.

As the pain is a learnt response, it can also be unlearnt. Our approach focuses on retraining the brain to respond appropriately to safe signals by rewiring the neural pathways causing chronic pain.

Redefining how we understand & treat chronic pain

Our treatment

Pioneering neuroscience is redefining how we understand and treat chronic pain. Our personalised mind-body approach targets persistent symptoms through chronic pain recovery coaching. Each therapeutic method is born from leading neuroscience, proven to reduce or eliminate chronic pain. We provide education on the science behind pain. Understanding the connection between learnt neural pathways and chronic symptoms and the importance of our reaction to pain is vital to recovery.

Our treatment is a combination of Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), Emotional Awareness and Expression therapy (EAET), and Internal Family System (IFS) therapy. This framework is designed to rewire the neural pathways causing pain using brain training practices, emotional exercises, and mindfulness. Determining the key elements contributing to chronic pain, we aim to equip our clients with appropriate tools to free themselves from their persistent symptoms.

“Discovering this work was completely life-changing” - Lily

Testimonials

Lily (migraines)

“With Poppy's unwavering support, I have made significant progress with my chronic symptoms. I still feel sensations in my body, but now understand what they are and what they mean, all thanks to Poppy's detailed teachings. I remember when I first learned of mind-body medicine, I felt disheartened that most of the prominent coaches and physicians were based in the US. Poppy is such a rare find in the UK and is leading the charge in spreading this knowledge to the rest of the world. With her lived experience of chronic pain, Poppy has such a realistic appreciation of the challenges this work presents, but also the transformative results at the end of it. This means she is an incredible communicator of the subject matter but also a wonderful listener, creating a safe space in the coaching sessions. Discovering this work was completely life-changing because it not only broke my cycle of pain in the here and now but it also provided me with invaluable tools that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I would recommend Poppy to anyone suffering from chronic pain - she is the absolute best at what she does. She will show you the path towards recovery. Poppy is not only a phenomenal mind-body coach but also just a truly wonderful person. I feel incredibly grateful that our lives have crossed paths - meeting Poppy is one of the silver linings of my chronic illness.”

Alice (long covid)

“Poppy brings the most amazing energy to every session we have! She fills me with belief and reassurance that recovery from chronic symptoms is possible. She always provides me with clear and uplifting information that she guides me through at a pace that works for me. I finish sessions feeling capable and informed to heal from my mind-body symptoms. Since Poppy introduced me to mind-body medicine I’ve seen significant improvements in my symptoms. I was stuck in a cycle of weekly if not daily pain for a year and living an incredibly limited life, after regular sessions with Poppy I now have regular periods of time when I’m completely symptom-free! When I do experience symptoms I have so much more understanding of what is going on in my body. I’ve also managed to let go of a lot of fear that I had attached to my symptoms, that was really keeping me stuck. Most importantly I now feel able to get on with my life, whether I have symptoms or not. Poppy sets such an amazing example of compassion, acceptance and kindness for myself and my body. I think everyone would benefit from a bit of Poppy in their lives!”

Leo (neck/back pain)

“My time working with Poppy has been truly transformative. I was in a very hopeless place when we were first introduced, having struggled with constant chronic pain symptoms for more than 3 years. But thanks to Poppy, I have regained control of my life as she helps guide me through recovery. It’s clear that Poppy is incredibly knowledgeable in her field and her teachings have opened up my mind to new possibilities, providing me with all the tools and techniques needed to retrain my brain and overcome the pain. Also as someone who has suffered from chronic pain herself, Poppy understands the struggle of such issues and always approaches her coaching with empathy and compassion. She’s lovely to chat to on a personal level and I always look forward to our sessions. Although I’m still on the journey, with Poppy’s help and support I have already seen big improvements in my overall wellbeing and now I finally have the belief I will one day be pain-free, which is something I lacked for so long. I would definitely recommend Poppy to anyone who’s seeking a way out of their chronic pain. She is a true gem and so brilliant at what she does - I’m so grateful for having met her!”

Thomas (long covid)

“Poppy provided me with help when I needed it most. All done with generosity, digestible information, invaluable learnings and real care. This changed my life, having been through a period of distress, illness and anxiety for over 12 months caused by a ‘long covid’ diagnosis, affecting my work and relationships. She understands what you are going through and with a patient tone, listens and informs. Understanding the connection between the mind, body and pain has helped so many people close to me and changed their lives for the better. There is a way out of suffering, thank you Poppy.”
